Cold shearing: precision, repeatability, consistent quality.

Metal cold shearing is a sheet metal forming process that enables to shape the sheet metal using a punch and a core: the punch enters the core and separates the material, giving the component the desired shape. The process may involve one or more steps – folding, punching, shaping – carried out on the same machine or sequentially, depending on the complexity of the part and the volumes required.

At Sifral, we’ve been engaged in cold metal shearing for over 50 years. Each production step is monitored internally by our technical department , the moulds are built and maintained in our factory and every order always starts from a sampling shared with the customer. The result is a total process control and certified quality in every batch.

Is metal cold shearing the right choice?

When to choose it

Cold metal shearing is the ideal solution for components with flat or two-dimensional geometries, to be mass-produced with constant quality and competitive costs.

It is particularly suitable when:
  • The component has an even thickness
  • The geometry is planar or with defined folds
  • Production volumes are high and recurrent
  • High dimensional repeatability is required
  • You want to reduce the cost compared to conventional manufacturing
